Trust Wallet Warns Users of Scam Clones on Xiaomi and Amazon Stores

Trust Wallet, a Binance-backed cryptocurrency wallet, has issued an urgent warning about fraudulent versions of its app listed on Xiaomi and Amazon stores. The company is urging users to download the application exclusively from verified sources to avoid potential scams.

In a June 7 X post, Trust Wallet announced that it had submitted formal requests to both Xiaomi and Amazon to remove the scam apps. The company stressed the critical importance of obtaining the app from legitimate sources, specifically directing users to download it from the App Store for iOS devices, the Google Play Store for Android devices, and the Google Chrome Store for the Trust Wallet Extension.

“Please exercise due diligence when downloading the Trust Wallet app — be sure that the app is the official one.”

This warning follows a recent incident in late April when Google temporarily removed Trust Wallet from its marketplace. According to a spokesperson from the crypto wallet, the removal was due to Google’s policies, and an appeal had been submitted weeks prior. There were rumors that the removal was connected to an FBI circular warning against the use of non-KYC (Know Your Customer) platforms and solutions. However, the FBI notice was not cited as a specific reason for Google’s decision to take down the wallet, as per the spokesperson’s comments.

Trust Wallet’s alert aims to protect users from falling victim to these scam clones, emphasizing the necessity of downloading the app from official and verified channels to ensure security and authenticity.
