Ukraine’s Potential Anti-Corruption Chief Revealed as Altcoin Holder in Official Declaration

In a surprising revelation, Kateryna Kapliuk, a nominee for the head of Ukraine’s National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP), appears to be a holder of altcoins such as DOGE and LUNA, according to her official financial disclosure.

Kapliuk, a former journalist at Ukrainska Pravda and a current candidate for a crucial anti-corruption position, disclosed in her official declaration that she accumulated over 30 different altcoins during her tenure at the agency. The disclosed document reveals that Kapliuk, who joined NACP in 2020 as an advisor, engaged in cryptocurrency investments until mid-2022, with a total expenditure of 127,165 UAH (approximately $4,778).

While it remains uncertain whether Kapliuk still retains the mentioned cryptocurrencies, the declaration details purchases of more than 19.3 million SHIB tokens, over 39.7 billion DOGE tokens, and slightly over 0.01 BTC, among other altcoins like DASH, ZEN, and BTT. Notably, all tokens, except for 0.007 BTC, were reportedly held on the Binance platform according to the declaration. As of the time of this report, Kapliuk has not issued any public statements on this matter.

In a related context, in early December 2023, crypto.news reported that the NACP seized crypto assets valued at $1.5 million from Yury Shchigol, the former chief of the Special Communications Service. Shchigol and his deputy Victor Zhor were accused of misappropriating approximately $1.8 million in government funds through an alleged scheme involving overpayments for software and services from two unnamed firms. The seized assets included 6.9 BTC, $1.2 million in USDT, and 331 TRX, leading to the arrest of Zhor as well.
