Worldcoin Expands World ID Verification Services to Singapore with Orb Device

Worldcoin recently made headlines by extending its World ID verification services to Singapore, introducing access to identity authentication through its specialized hardware device, Orb. The expansion into Singapore comes hot on the heels of the successful launch of World ID 2.0 and the notable decision to open-source the Worldcoin iris recognition pipeline just before the mid-December mark.

This significant inclusion of Singapore into Worldcoin’s ID verification network is a strategic move as the project continues its expansion across key regions, including Asia, Europe, and South America. Tools for Humanity (TFH), a pivotal contributor to the initiative, has solidified its presence in Singapore by partnering with startup and tech associations. This collaboration underscores Worldcoin’s dedication to fostering partnerships and ensuring credibility within the industry.

However, Worldcoin has opted to discontinue Orb verification services in India, Brazil, and France. This decision adds a layer of complexity to the ever-evolving landscape of digital identity verification, signaling potential shifts in the project’s global strategy.

Concurrently, the World ID-compatible wallet, World App, has achieved noteworthy milestones, surpassing 5 million downloads and boasting an impressive 1.7 million monthly active users. TFH, the driving force behind World App, reports that these numbers position the app as the fifth most popular hot wallet globally in 2023, placing it alongside established industry players like the Bitcoin.com wallet.
